2016: Books to Read

I am the first person to admit that I am not a big reader.  I like reading, if I’m interested in the subject manner, but I’m more the read a book on vacation laying on the beach type of person.  A few friends I’ve talked to had the same goal for this year to read 12 books, one per month.  Sidenote, I think a bunch of people, including me, have decided to create multiple goals for ourselves rather than just choosing a resolution.  I really like this idea.  You can read about my thoughts from a previous post, here.

I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai - This is the first book that I'm reading out of this list.  Malala is the girl we all wish we could be.  She has so much strength.  I met her once and although quiet and reserved, you could tell how much courage she has even through the silence.

#GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso - Every powerful girl should read this book.  Hoping I can learn or two from Sophia, the brains behind the store Nasty Gal.

Then We Came To The End by Joshua Ferris - The back of this book reads, "No one knows us quite the same way as the men and women who sit beside us in department meetings and crowd the office refrigerator with their labeled yogurts”.  Office humor at its finest.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? By Mindy Kaling – I know this isn’t her newest book, but I’ve heard its hysterical.  I’m not a huge fan of Mindy Kaling but I think this book might change my mind.  After all she used to write for The Office.

Girls In White Dresses by Jennifer Close – Feel like everyone you know is getting engaged or married.  Ya, me too.  Apparently, this book is all about said topic.  I’m sure many of us can relate.

You Deserve A Drink by Mamrie Hart – I was perusing Barnes & Noble searching for new titles to add to my book list and came across this one.  I immediately picked it up.  If you’re not familiar with Mamrie, she’s a funny you tube star.  I saw her read an excerpt out of this book and died laughing.  Can’t wait to read it.  Let’s face it we all deserve a drink.

Dear Girls Above Me by Charlie McDowell – Inspired by a true story, this book was created from the open letters Charlie wrote to his noisy female upstairs neighbors on Twitter.

I’ve already started reading I Am Malala and loving it.  I’m trying this new thing where I don’t turn my tv on when I get into bed.  Instead, I pick up a book.  I fell into this rut where I would turn on the tv and stay up way too late because I couldn’t stop watching Friday Night Lights or whatever I turned on Netflix.  This way I don’t go to sleep too late and I can wake up early to work out, yay!  Let’s face it, I’m loving reading right now, but it still tends to put me to sleep which is perfect.  If you’re looking for something to read I think I have all bases covered.  This list has lots of funny, girl power and inspiring books on it.
